John faced a major internal conflict inside the story. He was struggling with his fears and he was deciding if he should go East to the “forbidden place” or not. There were a lot of stories told by elders that said it was forbidden to go East because tales said it was where the God lives. He was having a hard time deciding if he should go because he might just never come back if he went into God’s property. On the other hand, he can also be the hero that was the first person to come back alive from the East. John also faced a major external conflict in the story. He took eight days to finish his journey and it wasn’t easy at all. During the journey, John was once chased by dogs and he was sleeping in other people’s apartment without any permission. When he was being chased by the dogs, he ran, found a door, and shut the door and isolated himself away from the dogs. He later ran up the stairs and that was another external conflict he faced. He started to feel dizzy after running the stairs. John also met external conflicts when he saw the rivers because he used to be living in the hills.
