Literacy Analysis

Maggie wanted the quilts for her marriage. She wanted the quilts to be passing down to her so it can be part of her heritage. Maggie knew that the quilts were on of the most precious objects that her family has passed down from her grandmother. Dee also felt the quilts important. It showed the heritage of Dee and where she came from. Dee could use the quilts to show people who lived in the cities. She wanted to express herself that she has a different background than others even though they all ended up in the city. The quilts showed the countryside’s life and how different they are from the people living in the city. Both Maggie and Dee wanted the quilts for certain reasons, but Mama preferred to give the quilts to Maggie since she has promised Maggie to give her the quilts for her marriage. She also felt that Dee was trying to be different from them whereas on the other hand, Maggie lives the same way Mama lived and felt happy with the life they were used to. Dee wanted to show her smartness in front of her family and then show her friends where she was from by showing the quilts.
